When I was ten years old, my father was diagnosed with leukemia. When I was eleven, he and my mom had to move to another city in another state for a year so that he could undergo what was then an experimental treatment. My brother and I lived with my grandparents during that time. Thanksgiving of that year, they took us to stay with our parents for a week. That was the first year we had ever had Thanksgiving dinner with just the four of us. That memory is tinged with sadness for me, because my father died less than a year after that Thanksgiving. But it will always be a fond memory for me, because it reinforces the love and connectedness that a family should be, even when things aren’t going so great.

Our First Thanksgiving
March 28th, 2010Beam Me Up, Scotty!
March 24th, 2010Science fiction and fantasy movies are my absolute favorites. I enjoy them because they take me to another place or time. Somewhere different from the world we live in. And for an hour or two, I’m able to escape into that world and not think about all the things that are going wrong with this one. I believe they open up the mind and the imagination. If you let them, they will show you a different way of looking at the world. So if you ever need to get away from your troubles, my advice would be to pop in a Star Trek movie, say “Beam me up, Scotty!”, and travel to a world beyond this one.

Clique-ing Away
March 22nd, 2010High School. They say those are the best four years of a person’s life. If only that sentiment were accurate. For some, of course, it is. For those lucky few who are pretty, or athletic. Their popularity skyrockets and they are the kings and queens. But for some of the other peons wandering the halls, those four years are torture. Some are able to find others like themselves to band together with. Tribulations are always easier to bear when one doesn’t have to bear them alone. This type of social hierarchy is, I believe, very detrimental. Cliques foster distance and dislike. Students are judged, not on their own merits, but on the merits of their “crowd”. And this attitude carries over into later life. The popular looking down on those they see as “less”. It’s not a very balanced way of looking at life. And it all starts in High School.
Peculiar

It could trace the culprit by its magical character which most of the animals do not have. Dogs are admired by children as their dearest friends. Dogs also used as a security personnel in houses especially during night hours in watching any untoward incidents. The pups are well maintained and used as a play doll among kids’ folk. For safeguarding the health and its hygiene, many materials like dogs beds, dogs’ belts, dogs’ biscuits are frequently used. There are several exotic and indigenous varieties of dogs present all over the world. Some of the breeds are exclusively used by the police departments for tracing culprits.
